Sunrise on the River

We read. We watched movies. We talked. We shared. We reconnected. We relaxed.

Bennie and I just spent two days at Colucci Cabins down on the Ohio River in southern Indiana , in the tiny town of Magnet . These cabins, owned by Bud and Jackie Colucci, are charming, tidy, warm cabins, each ready for a romantic getaway or a family vacation. In addition to the typical things found in hotel rooms, these wonderful cabins also have fully equipped kitchens (right down to the ice maker in the fridge and the soap for the dishwasher), so all you have to bring is your food. The refrigerators are full size, so you can stock up for a few days or a few weeks.

The kitchens include dishes, glasses, cookware, a blender, a coffeemaker – you name it! There is even a gas grill on the deck (overlooking the scenic Ohio River ) so that our steaks had that wonderful flame-grilled flavor.

Our cabin had two bedrooms, two full baths (one equipped with washer and dryer) and a couch that folds out to sleep two more. And there were just two of us! The upstairs bedroom is open to the downstairs, so that even late at night, we could enjoy the views of the big barges slowly making their way upriver. (Or was it down river?) The windows were extended into the peak of the roof, so that even from the loft, we had a full view of the river.

We had a full view of the river when we lounged in the hot tub, too. That was nicely placed on the deck, so that at night we could see the stars and during the day, we enjoyed the clouds floating by (about the same speed as the barges!).

If you’d like a true getaway, where it’s quiet and you are want to unwind, consider Colucci River Cabins. Call them at 812-843-5646,email them at logcabins@psci.net or check out their website, coluccirivercabins.com. Tell them Martha sent ya!
