Holiday Organizing Tips

During the holidays, it might seem harder to stay organized, but it’s not impossible. Although the holidays are busy, it could be a good time to start some new organizational habits.

Increase Your Clothes Closet Space

If you have a day or two off around the holidays, you might be able to make more of your closet with that extra time off work. Most people use just a fraction of the closet space available to them, because typically they have only one hanging bar. Since many clothes are not floor-length, there’s generally extra space to install additional hanger rods or shelving units beneath the current hanging bar, especially under the areas where you hang shorter items like blouses and skirts.

Lighten Your Suitcase

If you’re staying in a hotel on your holiday travels, call ahead to see if they have blow dryers, irons, and common toiletries in the room. If they do, you can use what the hotel provides so you don’t have to add this unnecessary weight to your luggage.

Don’t Wait Until You Run Out

Running out of office supplies can be bothersome, especially around the holidays. Whether you work in an outside office or have a small office area at home, you’re bound to need office supplies such as paper clips, labels, file folders and other similar items.

Create a list of common office supplies you use. Make copies of this list and file the copies away. Keep one easily accessible by tacking it to your office bulletin board. As you are running out of supplies, just check them off on your list. When the list starts to grow, order all of your office supplies at once from a catalog or the Internet, or stop at your local office supplies store. Bring your list with you when you go, so you don’t forget anything. A good rule of thumb is to mark it on your list when you only have 25% of that particular supply left.
