Interested in quilting?
Check out the hall of fame
If you are interested in quilting, there’s a place in Ind
iana
that will be of interest to you. It’s The Quilters Hall of Fame. Founded in
1979 by Hazel Carter, The Quilters Hall of Fame (QHF) is a non-profit
organization dedicated to honoring those who have made outstanding contributions
to the world of quilting.
The Quilters Hall of Fame has a permanent home located in Marie Webster’s colonial revival house in Marion, Indiana, where she lived from 1902 to 1942. It was in this house that she designed her famous quilts and operated a successful pattern business. The Marie Webster House is in the process of being renovated by The Quilters Hall of Fame so it may house this unique museum and archives documenting America’s quilt making heritage.
The significance of the house was officially recognized in 1992 when it was placed on the National Register of Historic Places. It is also been designated a Landmark of Women’s History and declared a National Historic Landmark by the National Park Service, the only one which honors a quilt maker!
