Where to Shop for Christmas

In central Indiana, we have so many wonderful little towns to explore. We at Life in the Midwest explored some of them – Pendleton, Noblesville, Hagerstown and Metamora – and they are definitely worth checking out when it’s time for you to start shopping for Christmas.

PENDLETON

Pendleton, located on Fall Creek in Madison County, is a beautiful historic town with a huge selection of shopping options. The town will hold its annual Christmas open house on November 15.

With ample shops for crafts, home décor and antiques, you will easily spend a whole day in Pendleton.

For example, Country Junction is just full of interesting little items, such as quilted purses, tinware, primitive crafts, country crafts and candles. There is also a wide selection of Christmas decorations year ‘round. Just down the street is Grandma’s Treasures, located in what used to be the Old Trail Restaurant. It’s like several stores in one, with different areas for various kinds of décor. You’ll find an enormous selection of baskets, as well as the latest in home decorating, such as Shabby Chic, primitives, cottage country furniture and wind chimes. There are also items such as soaps, candles, lamps, rugs and pottery.

At The Flower Cart, don’t be fooled by the name. It’s not just floral arrangements! There is a whole room of Christmas décor, and the rest of the store is filled with all kinds of gift items, like ceramics and candles and other home décor.

If you are into sewing and making your own crafts, there are two places for you: Needle in a Quilt and Ruth’s Legacy. Both have an amazing assortment of fabrics, patterns, notions and even gifts. Classes are available, as well as quilting and supplies.

For something really unique, check out Tweeked Fine and Funky, right there on State Street. This store has some really unusual items, from vintage clothes and shoes to furniture, ceramics and pottery.

If antiques are your thing, check out the Pendleton Antique Mall and the Heritage Antique Mall. Both have impressive selections of furniture, collectibles, pottery, signs and paintings. As an added bonus, Heritage also has custom framing, so you could frame a keepsake and give a gift that will have lasting sentimenal value.

While you are downtown, you might want to stop in to Molly O’Connors for a steaming cup of java, and check out the gifts and antiques for sale. This quaint shop invites you to relax during the frenzied holiday season.

Of course, there’s lots going on at Falls Park Plaza. Perhaps you’ll want to give a gift card from The Finer Cut, a family hair salon, or stop by Lo-Cost Pharmacy and see what nifty gift items they have.
